My Art Life This Time

Life in the studio hasn’t quite gone to plan lately.
A new video has been taking shape behind the scenes, while an unexpected injury has temporarily changed the way I work.
Here’s what’s been happening in my art life lately.

There has been a lot happening behind the scenes with my art lately, although not always in the way I had planned. For some time now, I’ve been working on a new video that I’m really excited to share. I wanted to create something that gives a little more insight into my world as an artist, but also into the places, people and everyday moments that sit behind the work.
It has taken time to bring it all together. There has been filming, collecting moments, putting ideas together, and working out how to tell the story in a way that feels true to me.

The video will be coming towards the end of September, and I’m looking forward to finally sharing it with you.

But, as life tends to do, things don’t always go according to plan. I recently hurt my hand, which meant that creating had to take a little pause. For someone who spends so much time using her hands, it was a frustrating reminder of how much we take simple things for granted. Even something as ordinary as carving a roast became a bit of a challenge!
I’ve been wearing a semi-cast and giving my hand some time to heal, which has meant stepping back from the studio for a little while.

It hasn’t been easy to slow down when there are always ideas in my head and things I want to make. But sometimes the creative process also means knowing when to stop, rest and let the body catch up.

So for now, I’m allowing myself a little patience.
