August Looks like This
August has arrived with rain, full paddocks, busy school mornings, and evenings around the fire. Life on the farm has been moving between family, creativity, and new ideas taking shape. Here’s a little glimpse of what August has looked like so far.
August has started with three days of soaking rain here on the farm. The kind of rain you don't complain about when you know the pastures and garden have been waiting for it. Everything has had a good drink, and the garden is looking a little more wild than usual! There is something special about watching the landscape change after rain. The colours become richer, the paddocks feel greener, and everything seems to slow down for a moment. After the drier months, it feels like a small gift from the sky.
And with the colder weather comes one of my favourite parts of winter — bonfire evenings. We recently gathered at the farm with friends, the children, and our much-loved neighbour and honorary farm grandfather, Poppy Mick. Good company, a warm fire, plenty of stories and laughter
Meanwhile, the house has become busy again with the return to school. The holidays are over, routines are starting again, and the days seem to fill themselves before we've even had a chance to catch our breath. Between family, the farm, work, and time in the studio, there is always something happening.
But there are also new ideas beginning to take shape.
I have been talking with the wonderful team at Bakery Boorowa about a creative collaboration inspired by our local native birds and the things we see around us every day. It is still very much in the early stages, so I won't give too much away just yet, but I am excited to see where the idea takes us.
There are also conversations happening around the next Hilltops Off the Beaten Track art trail in 2027, and the possibility of using a local space as a pop-up gallery. Nothing is set in stone yet, but I love that these ideas are beginning to grow.
Perhaps that is one of the nicest parts of creativity. Not every idea needs to arrive fully formed. Sometimes it starts with a conversation, a rainy morning, a place, or simply noticing what is happening around you.
For now, I am enjoying the rain, the slightly wild garden, the return to routine, and all the little ideas quietly gathering momentum.
