Creating Together: An Art as Therapy Morning

Recently, I had the privilege of hosting an Art as Therapy session at the Boorowa RSL Sub-Branch, welcoming veterans, members, and their families for a morning of creativity, conversation, and connection.

Art has a wonderful way of bringing people together! For two hours, the room became a space where there was no pressure to create the "perfect" painting—only an invitation to slow down, explore, and enjoy the process. As both an artist and psychologist, I continue to be inspired by what happens when people are simply given permission to create. Each participant approached the canvas differently. Some painted with confidence, others with curiosity, but every artwork reflected a unique story and perspective.

As I often say... Go on, go on and create xx

One of the most rewarding parts of these workshops is watching creativity replace self-doubt. Conversations begin to flow, laughter fills the room, and blank canvases gradually transform into something deeply personal. The artwork itself is only one part of the experience. Confidence, connection, and the joy of trying something new are often the greatest gifts people take home.

I believe creativity belongs to everyone, not only artists. It gives us permission to pause, reflect, and express ourselves in ways that words sometimes cannot.
