Winter Roads, Old Friendships & New Inspiration

Winter is also an amazing season to travel! Some journeys take us somewhere new. Others gently bring us back to ourselves. From celebrating a lifelong friendship in tropical Cairns to exploring the vast landscapes of Bourke and Cobar during the school holidays, this month's travels became a beautiful reminder that inspiration is often found along the road.

This month began with a long weekend in beautiful Cairns, celebrating a very special milestone—my dear friend Ash's 50th birthday. Surrounded by rainforest, ocean, laughter, and lifelong friendships, it was the perfect reminder that belonging is often found in the people who know us best. We returned home with full hearts, grateful for time shared together and memories that will stay with us for years to come.

Not long afterwards, the school holidays began, bringing another adventure. Together with Mackenzie, Austin, and our wonderful nanny Kerry, we packed the car and headed west on a road trip through country New South Wales. Travelling through Bourke and Cobar reminded me once again why I feel so deeply connected to rural Australia. There is something about the wide-open landscapes, endless horizons, brilliant sunsets, and star-filled skies that continues to shape both my life and my creative practice.

One of the highlights of our journey was visiting artist Jenny Greentree in Bourke. Spending time surrounded by another artist's work is always inspiring. Every studio, every gallery, and every conversation reminds me that creativity takes many forms, yet always begins with curiosity.

Travelling has a beautiful way of refreshing the mind. Whether celebrating old friendships in tropical Queensland or rediscovering the landscapes that first made me feel at home, every journey offered new inspiration to carry back into the studio.
