Small Rocks, Big Joy : Mackenzie spent an afternoon painting rocks as part of the wonderful Hilltops Rocks community

Sometimes the simplest creative projects leave the biggest impact. Recently, Mackenzie spent an afternoon painting rocks as part of the wonderful Hilltops Rocks community project — a local initiative built around creativity, connection, and a little bit of adventure.

Hilltops Rocks is part art project, part treasure hunt.

Participants paint rocks, seal them for protection, and hide them throughout local parks and community spaces for others to discover. When someone finds a rock, they can share their discovery online before choosing whether to keep it or hide it again for the next person.

What makes projects like Hilltops Rocks so special is the way they connect people through small acts of generosity. As both an artist and psychologist, I often think about the importance of accessible creativity. Not art as performance or perfection, but art as participation. Art as play. Art as connection.

Mackenzie was immensely proud of her finished creations and even more excited about hiding them for others to find.
